Working from home has become increasingly common since the pandemic, as it offers flexibility and convenience to professionals who have this option. However, this increase has also attracted cybercriminals looking for ways to access corporate networks and systems to steal personal and even confidential company information.
A leaked password or an infected computer can serve as a gateway for attacks such as ransomware, which often lead to business interruptions and data breaches that may result in losses for both the company and its employees.
When working remotely, companies often provide the devices to be used and establish policies for their use designed to protect both data and systems. Don't use the device for personal purposes. Installing software and games, for example, can create vulnerabilities and make it easier to access the networks and systems to which you connect.
When accessing corporate websites and systems, use secure, encrypted connections, such as webmail via https or the company's VPN. When you receive an email or message, be careful not to click on suspicious links, as they can direct you to malicious websites designed to steal your credentials or install malware on your devices. Learn how to identify a suspicious email by watching the video “Don't Click on Links You Don't Recognize”.
Another important recommendation is to increase your level of protection by creating strong passwords and enabling two-step verification whenever possible. Never share your credentials with anyone and remember to keep your systems and software up to date.
Finally, be careful with the data stored on your computer and only use authorized sharing methods approved by your company. If you handle personal data of individuals or legal entities, be extra cautious, data leaks may have legal implications.
If you have any questions, notice any unusual activity, or suspect a breach or security incident, contact the department responsible for security at your organization.
