Description

Incognito/Private Browsing mode is a privacy tool used by Internet users who don’t wish to share their data and/or leave traces in the browser, such as cookies and browsing and search history. It’s recommended to use this feature especially on shared devices, such as computers owned by colleagues or relatives, libraries, and others. This function is available for all browser types.

Browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari store passwords, activity logs, cookies and browsing history locally, so anyone with access to the device can view this information. When the site is accessed using incognito mode, the browser won’t save your browsing history, permissions granted to sites, cookies, data from the sites accessed, or even information provided in forms. This feature is also suitable for people who use open networks.

Still, it’s important to know that even when browsing in incognito/private mode, some information such as bookmarks, your IP address, and your identity (if you log into any Web service) remain visible to others. So don't forget to log out of any accounts you have accessed before you close your browser.

To access Incognito mode, use the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + N in Edge, Firefox, and Chrome browsers. On Mac devices press Command + Shift + N. On smartphones, go to your browser's app and from the menu choose the new incognito/private tab option. If you want to further protect your data, you can combine the anonymous mode with a VPN, which offers users encryption tools and secure browsing.

Video description

In the first scene a girl is sitting in front of a laptop doing some research. Next to her, a browser window is highlighted, in which she is searching for a running shoe. Several eyes appear like they’re paying attention to the research she’s doing, serving as a surveillance analogy. Above is the phrase “Are you going to use the Internet and want more privacy?”.

In the second scene, the girl opens a browser using the incognito browsing mode and gets excited. Above is the phrase “Use the incognito browsing mode.”

In the third scene, a criminal and a salesman try to follow the online footprints/traces left by the girl, but they’re unsuccessful and become angry. The phrase “Avoid leaving traces like:” appears.

In the fourth scene, the girl stands up with a magnifying glass in her hand and realizes that her data hasn’t been tracked. The sentence is completed by: “browsing history; cookies and website data; and information provided in forms.” These topics are listed next to her. The girl is happy.
