Difference between uploading and downloading

Description

Do you know the difference between uploading and downloading? Downloading means retrieving files like images, videos, music, and documents from the Internet to a device, while uploading involves transferring files from a device to the Internet, such as posting a photo on social media or sending an attachment via email.

On an Internet connection, the maximum upload and download speeds can be different depending on the technology used, the purpose of the plan, and the provider's commercial strategy. Typically, ads focus on download speed. However, if you look closely, you’ll see that upload speed is also mentioned in the ad. If it's not, the user will be informed of this when signing the contract.

Many users consume content on the Internet by watching videos and movies, browsing social media, downloading files, and so on. All of this is considered downloading, which is why ads emphasize download speed. However, depending on how you use the Internet, upload speed can be just as important. For example, when you participate in a video conference and need to share your camera, audio, and screen, you use upload speed to send data. The same applies when you upload videos to a website or social media, live stream, or even play online games. In these cases, upload speed is extremely important!

So, when choosing an Internet plan, pay attention to both the download and upload speeds! If you already have a plan and don't know how your Internet speed is performing, try searching for Internet speed test sites. These tools allow you to check your current download and upload speeds, as well as other quality parameters.

Video Description

The video starts with a girl using a laptop. Beside her, a large image of an open web browser shows a video from NIC.br's Net Citizen project. An arrow pointing downward indicates that the video is being downloaded. The phrases "When retrieving files from the Internet" and "you are downloading them" appear.

In the second scene, the character is using her cellphone and posting a photo on a social network. The phrases now are: "When sending something to the Internet, you are uploading."

To conclude, the girl uses a magnifying glass to compare the download and upload speeds of two Internet plans and their respective costs. Above, the phrase "Download and upload speeds can be different" appears, and is soon replaced by "that's why you should pay attention when choosing your plan!"
