To back up means to copy your data to a different location to keep it safe. This data can include photos, videos, folders, music, contacts, and more.
You can back up your data using removable physical media such as an external hard drive, a USB flash drive, or a memory card. Today, cloud storage services are also a practical alternative.
Backup options are available for various devices, including smartphones, tablets, and computers. However, each operating system has its own default backup system:
1. On Android, backups are managed through Google One. Photos are saved with Google Photos, and you can also upload data to Google Drive. To enable backup on your Android device, go to Settings / Google / Backup / turn on the feature.
2. On iOS, backups are handled by iCloud Drive, which stores all user data. To enable the feature, open Settings / [your name] / iCloud / iCloud Backup and turn it on.
When setting up a new device, both Android and iOS systems will prompt you to restore an existing backup, simply by selecting the option and entering the login credentials.
Backup services not only keep your data safe but also free up space on your device. However, pay attention to the storage limits offered by cloud backup services. Most systems offer a basic free version with limited storage, usually a few gigabytes. If you need more space, you can subscribe to plans with larger storage capacities.
Tip: when setting up a cloud backup system, you can choose which data to back up, giving you better control over the use of the storage space. For example, you can choose to back up photos taken with your phone's camera but not those shared on messaging apps.
In addition to each system's default backup options, various services and apps can be installed depending on your needs. These can include features such as synchronizing selected data across devices, adding plugins, and scheduling backups. Research different services and plans to find the one that best suits your needs.

Remember: it’s important to keep your backup active and up to date. In case of loss, theft, or replacement of your device, an updated backup allows you to synchronize and automatically restore your data from the cloud.
Video Description
The animation begins with a girl in an electronics store. She is thinking about replacing her cellphone, and the phrase "Before replacing your cellphone" appears above her.
The scene changes and the text now reads "remember to enable backup on the old one!" In the next frame, the girl is in a room using her current cellphone, and a large image of the broken screen of her device appears beside her. She then activates the backup function, and an upward arrow shows that files, folders, photos, and profiles are being uploaded to the cloud.
The animation concludes with an image of the cellphone screen displaying "Backup restored!" and the phrase "This way, you can transfer and restore your data on the new device!" appears above the girl, who claps happily.
